I love basketball and have been a huge Michael Jordan fan for years. Do you realize he only played JV High School basketball, until his Junior year? He missed more than 9,000 shots in his career, lost over 300 games, and twenty-six times he was trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.
To quote Michael Jordan, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that failure allowed me to succeed at the highest level during my legendary career.” His secret to success was his fearlessness when it came to failing.
When you commit to transforming your life, you will fail more because, you will try more than most people. Think of the extremely successful people you know and understand they’ve all had failures. Even Walt Disney, Cyndy Lauper, George Foreman, and Elton John have all declared bankruptcy in their past. Each one of them rebuilt their lives and went on to enjoy a greater level of success.
It’s safe to say that each of the people I mentioned took chances. When you are transforming and taking chances, failure is always a possibility. Learn to not assess your success by the number of your successes, but rather by the failures you’ve overcome.
The greatest lesson to learn by my Tip #7 is that failure is only the end if you allow it to be! If you never fail, you are probably living in your comfort zone and will not transform or make changes necessary to become the success you were put on this earth to become.
